Sex Therapy
I find it exciting that you wanting to grow a deeper awareness of your desires, kinks, sexual pleasures, and/or sexual difficulties. Sex therapy can help both individuals and couples to address emotional, psychological, and sexual intimacy difficulties. Everyone has their own sexual narratives that influence their experiences, expectations, and satisfaction with sex. Together, we will develop closer connections (self and/or partnered), normalize sexual exploration and pleasure, create safety for intimacy, and receive inclusive sexual education.
I have worked with clients struggling with sexual satisfaction, fear of rejection, performance anxiety, body insecurities, desire discrepancies, physiological impairments, and more. Sex therapy is more than assessing a sexual act that didn’t go according to “plan.” It’s normalizing the full spectrum of your sexual health and how it impacts your overall well-being as a person.
I use a sex therapy model called the P-LI-SS-IT approach with my sex therapy clients. P-LI-SS-IT stands for:
Permission (P): I seek to provide my clients with comfort and obtain your permission as we discuss any sexual concern(s), often introducing the topic of sexuality, thereby validating sexuality as a legitimate health issue.
Limited Information (LI): I will address specific sexual concerns you may have and attempt to correct myths and misinformation.
Specific Suggestions (SS): Collectively, we will compile a sexual history or profile that aims to:
Define your issues and concerns.
Determine the course of how your sexual issues have evolved over time.
Facilitate your understanding of the main issue and provide options for resolution.
Assist you in formulating perceptions and ideas about sources of your concerns and developing realistic and appropriate goals and solution plans.
Intensive Therapy (IT): I will provide specialized treatment in cases that are complicated by the coexistence of other complex life issues, which may also include psychiatric diagnoses such as depression, anxiety disorders (including obsessive-compulsive disorder), personality disorders, or substance abuse, or by interpersonal or intrapersonal conflict.
Talking about sex is no longer a “hush” topic. You are deserving of pleasure; let’s explore it further.
